It had such potential. Starting with the artwork, even though the character designs were somewhat uneven the Mechs were super cool owing a lot to Balinese puppetry mixed with the surrealistic vision of Michael Parks. The story premise had an intelligent and novel twist focusing on how parallel universes could influence each-other. The dialog was intelligent too you had to have a brain to follow physics discussions on quarks, space, time and Schroedingers' Cat and then it fell apart. The science became made up and totally lost any basis in reality, the story devolved into a weak mess filled with time travel paradoxes that they should never have even encountered in a parallel universe story. I had such hopes for this anime. The directors Kazuki Akane and Kenji Yasuda have created a lot of Animes I loved. ESCLAFLOWNE, TURN A GUNDAM, WOLF'S RAIN and FULL METAL AlCHEMIST to name a few. But they are also responsible for ones where i wish could reclaim the hours i wasted like, GENESHAFT, and BOOGIEPOP PHANTOM Sadly NOIEN owes more to later than the former series.
